Farmers are hoping to get back on their fields after the wet start to September.

Producers in some areas are having difficulty even going from point A to point B.

Stuart Lawrence farms in the Rosetown area and is the chair of Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, and said they’ve had less rain that some producers in the province.

He said he’s seen a lot of stuck equipment photos and hopes everyone stays safe and tries not to rush. As for the pulse crops in his area, Lawrence said most were taken off before the rain hit.

However, there will be some downgrading and there will be loss from lodging in crops still in the field. Lawrence added that 2026 has been a difficult year for root rot, particularly aphanomyces.

The United States is looking into the possibility of reinstating Mandatory Country of Origin Labelling on products like beef and pork.

There has been a voluntary version in place since the beginning of the year, but agriculture commentator Kevin Hursh wouldn’t be surprised if it changed with the currently tense relationship between Canada and the US.

He said it would disrupt the integrated supply chain for both beef and pork, and the situation bears watching, though he hopes cooler heads prevail.

Canada and Mexico fought against M-COOL back in 2015, arguing that it caused unfair harm to their livestock industries.

The World Trade Organization agreed at that time, ruling against the United States.
