Warm weather advance crop in Saskatchewan
Harvest has begun in the southwest region of Saskatchewan.
According to the provincial crop report for the week of July 28 to Aug. 3, two per cent of the harvest is complete. Crops Extension Specialist Augustine Osei said the majority of the crop that’s been combined are the winter cereals.
“At the moment winter wheat, seven per cent of it is harvested and 21 per cent of fall rye is harvested,” Osei said. “With the spring cereals it’s 37 per cent is harvested.”
As for the rest of the province, Osei said most crops continue to develop at their normal pace for this time of year, thanks in large part to the hot conditions this past week.
