Farm Credit Canada (FCC) wants to talk to farmers facing financial difficulties during this growing season.

FCC vice president of operations for the prairies Darren Howden said farmers are facing serious weather and trade disruptions this summer.

Howden said his advice to farmers is, if you deal with FCC or another financial institution, the sooner you get in to talk to your lender, the more options you will have.

International buyers came to Regina to make some deals.

Canada’s Farm Progress show wrapped up on Friday with an estimated $357 million in sales.

Manager Shirley Janeczko said there were 250 qualified buyers from 54 countries at the show.

In 2020, farm progress show will move to a Tuesday to Thursday format with a later start of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There is mixed farm reaction to Ottawa’s first-ever food policy for Canada.

The president of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan said it will have more impact on cities than rural areas.

Todd Lewis said the focus on healthy and safe food is always a good idea as well as a the crackdown on food mislabeling.

The federal government is investing $134 million in several initiatives, including community-led food projects.

A new Canada Brand promotional campaign will be launched.
