2026 Manitoba Crop Report

Manitoba harvest nearly two-thirds complete

Oct 7, 2026 | 2:25 PM

About 65 per cent of the Manitoba crop is in the bin.

Manitoba Agriculture applied research and production specialist James Frey said producers in the southwest have struggled.

“With quite a lot of moisture, they’re 50 per cent completed now. What really boosts that average is that the central part of the province is at 83 per cent,”

Frey said there have been more reports of crop damage over the past week, including sprouting in cereals and canola, especially where the crop was lodged.

Spring cereal harvest is nearing completion in the Central, Eastern and Interlake regions. Most spring cereals are yielding about average, with yields ranging from slightly below average to above average across the province. Winter cereals are growing well with the recent moisture.

Cattle are heading into the colder weather in good condition. Frey said windy, warm conditions have helped livestock producers put up late hay.

“We’re now into a season where some late season hay can be put up,” he said. “As the season begins to wind down, producers are looking at either moving cattle closer to home or potentially bringing out some supplemental feeding, or if the situation allows moving them to where pasture has been stockpiled.

Frey said annual forages cut after frost should be tested for nitrates.

“That can be a real issue, high nitrate levels in cattle,” he said. “Another one to point out is where there have been pasture mixes or annual forages containing sorghum, it’s important that those should be tested to see if there’s prussic acid which can actually be quite toxic and even fatal in cattle.”

Producers who have brought cows home from pasture have begun weaning calves and preparing for fall processing and pregnancy checking.
