Crown Land Leases

Saskatchewan changes the way it handles Crown land leases

Oct 28, 2026 | 1:40 PM

The Saskatchewan Government wants to ensure agricultural Crown lands remain accessible to producers for agricultural purposes.

The Ministry of Agriculture is introducing a new approach for agricultural Crown land leases. Starting Nov. 9, lease opportunities will be offered online through McDougall Auctioneers Ltd. on an ongoing basis as they become available.

Agriculture Minister David Marit said Saskatchewan producers rely on access to agricultural Crown land to support their operations and grow their businesses.

“By moving to an ongoing allocation model, we are providing a transparent and accessible process that better aligns lease opportunities with producer needs and supports a strong and competitive agriculture sector,” Marit said.

It’s believed the new approach will create a more responsive lease allocation process by offering Crown land, including expired leases, as they become available, rather than through a single annual offering.

Marit said online lease allocations ensure fair access and public transparency by treating all agricultural producers equally.

Interested bidders must meet the eligibility requirements. Lease opportunities will be posted online at saskatchewan.ca/crownlands and mcdougallauction.com.
