BC farmers deal with crop losses

Aug 13, 2026 | 2:43 PM

Farmers in B-C are grappling with losing crops from the wildfires, weighing on their bottom lines.

Ella Braden, the owner of Braden Hill Orchard & Farm, said her farm was effected when wildfires roared through Summerland, B.C.

She said she hasn’t been back to the property, but expects to lose a lot of her annual crops as evacuation orders are preventing her from irrigating her crops. Braden said the extent of the financial damage is not yet clear, but believes it could be up to half of her annual income.

B.C. Agriculture Minister Lana Popham announced Tuesday that there were 269 registered agricultural premises that were affected by wildfire activity.
