Producers, industry representatives and community members gathered July 28 for the 2026 East Central Research Foundation (ECRF)/Suncrest College Field Day at the ECRF Farm south of Yorkton, Sask.

Roughly 70 people attended the annual event, which featured a guided tour of active crop trials, soil health initiatives, and field-scale research aimed at providing practical solutions for Saskatchewan producers.

The research focused on crop performance, soil health and agronomic practices to help producers make informed decisions and improve productivity. Participants also had the opportunity to connect with researchers and industry experts and learn about emerging agricultural practices and innovations.

The Field Day highlighted the partnership between Suncrest College and the ECRF and the role of applied research in addressing real-world agricultural challenges while supporting innovation, sustainability and economic growth in the region.

Praveen Sapkota, applied research co-ordinator at Suncrest College, said applied research is most valuable when it provides practical benefits for producers.

“That’s why I value this tour every year. It gives us a chance to walk the plots with producers, industry, and anyone curious about agriculture, talk through what we’re seeing, and share what we’re learning in a way people can actually use,” Sapkota said. “Those conversations with our agronomists and researchers are where the real value happens.”

Sapkota said sharing research results with producers can help turn field observations and findings into practical decisions that support better crop production.

The Field Day also provided an opportunity for researchers, industry professionals and producers to exchange knowledge, discuss agricultural challenges and strengthen partnerships focused on practical, field-based solutions.
