The federal government has announced a 50 million dollar investment through the Strategic Response Fund in the 94.8 million dollar project by Natural Products Canada to strengthen Canada’s agri-food sector.

The feds say they are taking action to address food affordability, enhance competitiveness, and strengthen our national security.

According to the government, their investment will create over 550 jobs, generate over 1.8 billion dollars in GDP and help NPC establish a new Capacity Building Fund that will support investments in food-related manufacturing and processing capacity, and strengthen domestic food production, supply chain resilience, and food security.

“Farmers and agri-food business are key to a stronger Canadian economy and a more secure food supply,” said Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald.
