2026 Manitoba Crop Report

Seeding continues with the passing of Manitoba crop insurance deadline

Jun 25, 2026 | 10:50 AM

Manitoba farmers had completed 97 per cent of seeding by last week’s Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation crop insurance deadline.

Crop report editor Dennis Lange said it has been an interesting year.

“Variable amounts of precipitation occurred across the last seven days, with isolated showers sweeping through the southwest and central regions, with accumulations from zero to 34 millimetres,” Lange said. “Areas in the Interlake received less than five millimetres of rain and already flooded areas around Swan River and Swan Valley received 22 millimetres.”

Somerset, in southern Manitoba, received the highest accumulation last week at 34 millimetres of rain.

Lange said heavy rainfall from the previous week is still soaking away.

“Water is taking a long time to go down in those heavy areas, and growers are still assessing the damage from those rains as of today,” he said.

The Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation seeding deadline was June 20.

Lange said the northwest, typically a canola region, saw the biggest impact from wet conditions and had fewer acres planted.

“They were about 85 per cent complete as of the seeding deadline. The northwest was wetter early on with the big rains and farmers were just not able to get everything in before the deadline,” he said.

The only disease and insect challenge reported so far has been root rot in some regions. Lange said farmers are looking at fungicide options to control Mycosphaerella blight in field peas and are monitoring its progress.
