MELFORT, Sask. – Agriculture ministers from roughly 50 countries agreed to redouble their efforts on several issues.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau attended two days of meetings at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris.

The ministers agreed to continue their efforts to implement better practices to feed the growing world population, fight climate change, and ensure that farmers and workers can make a successful living from agricultural production.

Bibeau acknowledged the leadership of Canada’s producers in sustainable development and ensuring global food security.

“Our farmers are committed to feeding the planet while taking care of their land and their animals,” Bibeau said. “These meetings allow us to showcase Canadian leadership, as external factors continue to have a growing impact on production. Canadians and our economy benefit from a strong, sustainable agriculture sector.”

Although the challenges faced by the sector are similar around the world, each country adopts different approaches to meet their needs. The participating countries asked the OECD to explore actions that would allow a better comparison of how each country is evolving their policies and sustainable development.

The meeting was co-chaired by Bibeau and her New Zealand counterpart Damien O’Connor.

Case IH and New Holland Agriculture came away with three awards at the SIMA showcase held in Paris, France.

Case IH received the award for its Quadtrac AFS Connect™ tractor range in the “XXL” category. The Quadtrac range incorporates wireless connectivity. New Holland’s T4F tractor won in the “Best Specialized Tractor” category. Its VisionViewTM cab features the comfort of an open field tractor that maneuvers in narrow settings.

New Holland also won two bronze medals in the breakthrough products, services, and tech categories. The Grain Cam™ Mobile Grain Loss Calculator app helps farmers by using photographic data to calculate the percentage of grain lost during harvesting and then generates a report that recommends machine settings to increase yield.

New Holland also received a medal in the Livestock, Renewable Energy Category for its role in promoting a circular economy through its farm-based fuel production model for tractors that contributes to a negative carbon footprint. New Holland is the first to bring a methane-powered tractor to market.

SIMA is the showcase for the latest technological innovations in the agricultural world.
