Battlefords Agricultural Society planning Mistletoe Gift and Craft Sale

Nov 3, 2021 | 6:00 PM

NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. — The Battlefords Agricultural Society is once again holding its annual Mistletoe Gift and Craft Show and Sale this weekend with COVID-19 restrictions.

The event runs Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agrivilla on the Exhibition Grounds in North Battleford.

Last year the show was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. But this year, organizers are glad to say the show will go on.

Masks will be mandated. Proof of full vaccination, or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours, is also required. Personal identification also must be shown.

“It is mandatory as we are a public facility,” Battlefords Agricultural Society general manager Jocelyn Ritchie said of the precautions. “We will be checking everybody at the door as they come in.”

She is hopeful for a good turn out for the show.

“It’s a great sale. There is something for everyone and there are lots of crafts,” she said.

Some home-based businesses have also booked spots at the event.

“You can get very unique gifts for Christmas shopping or if you want to redecorate your home,” Ritchie said. “There are all kinds of things you can find at our show.”

Products for sale include everything from woodworking items, crafts and metal work, to beautiful scented candles, jewelry, and knitted items.

So far, about 25 vendors have signed up to take part.

“We don’t have as many tables as we normally would have,” Ritchie said. “It’s very well spaced out. We have lots of sanitation [with] hand sanitizers. It’s very safe.”

There is still an opportunity for more vendors to book if they contact the society within the next couple of days.

Organizers also plan to have a concession stand and some tables for people to rest and have a bite during their visit.

“I would encourage everyone to come and grab yourself a snack or some homemade soup,” Ritchie said. “It’s going to be a very nice two days, and the weather will be great.”

Ritchie said in past years there was often a nasty storm on one of the days of the event, so she is grateful to see this year blue skies are forecast instead.

Admission to attend the event is $5. The show is also a fundraiser for the Battlefords Agricultural Society, a non-profit organization, through ticket purchases and vendor booth fees.

“Please come and support the ag society if you like anything we do throughout the year,” Ritchie said. “Normally we have all kinds of different activities. I know that just about everyone in our community has attended something out here, or used our facilities in the past.”

Memberships available

As a note, the Battlefords Agricultural Society annual memberships are on sale now for $25 through the organization, from now until the end of January 2022. After that, the price will increase to $50.

Ritchie added that the society is also always looking for more volunteers if anyone is willing to help with any future activities.

“If you would like to volunteer or sit on any committee, give us a call,” she said.
