MELFORT, Sask. – December was dry in Saskatchewan, following a pattern that stretched over much of 2020.

Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang said a large amount of snow in November really stands out because there was very little precipitation in December.

“North Battleford had its driest December that it has recorded, Saskatoon had its third driest, Swift Current 10th driest as well as Meadow Lake was also quite dry with their sixth driest,” Lang said. “Pretty dry all across the province.”

The November storm came from the south east and held a higher water content as opposed to storms that come from the north west.

Manitoba Ag Days in Brandon has announced seven finalists for the Innovation showcase.

General manager Kristin Phillips said once the decision was made to cancel the show organizers felt it was a way to still bring attention to the new innovations in agriculture.

She says the finalists move into a championship pool and the public can follow along during the webinar on Jan. 14.

“Producers can log in and see what there is to offer and kind of head-to-head competition and make it a little bit fun and then farmers get the opportunity to vote,” Phillips said. “They can go to our website between Jan. 11 and 22 and vote for their favourite innovation.”

There were a total of 44 entries in the seven categories.
