EBT Chartered Professional Accountants

Aug 5, 2021 | 2:59 PM

EBT Chartered Professional Accountants – a name you’ve probably heard in Medicine Hat before, after all they’ve been serving clients in the community for almost 50 years. But what do you really know about EBT? Let’s start at the beginning.

EBT gets its name from the original three Principals: Curtis Ensminger, Todd Beck, and Dan Thompson. The EBT you know today started in July of 1998. Todd Beck recalls joining Curtis Ensminger at what was originally known as van der Sloot & McPhail. “From that point in time, we just continued to grow.” Over the years, EBT has grown exponentially, both in principals and staff as well as by extending their reach to serve communities beyond Medicine Hat. Today EBT proudly serves clients throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan as well as clients throughout Canada and internationally.

True to their roots, EBT continues to grow. As of July 1, 2021, the firm is excited to welcome five new principals to their leadership team. Congratulations to Amanda Finke, Brett Pudwell, Dalyce Cooper, Hayden Beck, and John Tempest. They are looking forward to the energy and enthusiasm these new principals will bring to the firm.

To expand their practice in Saskatchewan, EBT has merged with Pinnacle Financial in Swift Current. Pinnacle Financial is a large non designated accounting firm that allows EBT to solidify its position in the community and better serve its many clients in southwestern Saskatchewan. The new office and increased number of staff in Swift Current provides an opportunity for continued growth while providing the same great service our clients have come to expect.

“EBT has such a good base and foundation in the community. We do good work, we have great clients. We just want to continue to do what we already do.”

EBT is proud of its reputation as a trusted advisor in the community. In addition to growing through word-of-mouth, EBT’s client base has grown as a result of being a top referral choice for retiring accountants. EBT inspires confidence that client satisfaction and a high degree of service will be maintained through the transition and for years to come. When EBT joins your financial team, you can be certain that you are receiving the best and most responsive client care.

Having been around for such a long time, EBT has seen their clients evolve throughout the years. Today, businesses are looking to the future and including more long-range planning as part of their business strategy. They want to make sure they have a plan for moving to a new space, have funds available to expand and realize the realities of taxation. As the client has evolved, so has EBT. They have always had the mindset to provide value for clients over the long run and are committed to providing innovative and trusted advice.

This aspect of the firm is especially integral to the agricultural and farming industry. Your team at EBT knows farming is more than a lifestyle. Their professionals can assist you with everything from corporate planning to personal planning, and farm stability programs to intergenerational and succession planning. Sometimes the business owner is looking down and busy running the operations day-to-day, says Beck, and doesn’t see out into the horizon, and that’s our responsibility to help them look at what’s coming at them in the future.

Oftentimes, people forget what a huge business farming is. John Tempest says, “Even your small family farm now operates as an incredibly resource-heavy business… and [we] try to give farmers the tools they need to successfully run their business and transition it to the next generation.”

As you may be beginning to notice, EBT is more than a once a year tax stop. They offer a large array of services to agribusiness clients, such as preparation of government submissions, bookkeeping and payroll, assessing risk management programs, and more. When you meet with your accountant he or she will help you recognize your needs – perhaps highlight an aspect you had not considered before – and make you aware of other services they offer to meet those needs. “Sometimes the business owner is looking down and busy running the day-to-day operations,” says Beck, “and doesn’t see out into the horizon.  That’s our responsibility, to help them look at what’s coming at them in the future.”

EBT is excited to be adding Executor Services to its list of services this year. Choosing an executor, planning the will and distributing the estate can be complicated. EBT wants to help simplify that process. Many people do not understand the responsibilities that come with being or choosing an executor, but now you can appoint EBT to that role for your estate. They will help distribute assets, carry out the instructions of your will and ensure that all of your final wishes are taken care of in the most stress-free way for your family.

According to Beck, “While the firm has grown exponentially over the past twenty years, our client-centric focus has never wavered.  We ensure that all staff and principals are very responsive to requests and that the client’s needs are met on a daily basis.”

EBT – your trusted advisor and a proud member of your financial team.
