Saskatchewan producers will now have access to free testing for a parasite that affects goats.

All costs associated with the lab analysis will be paid for by the Ministry of Agriculture while goat owners are responsible for the cost of materials, the collection of fecal samples and shipping to the lab.

Sampling instructions and the study’s information are also available on the Prairie Diagnostic Services website.

Dr. Fritz Schumann and Dr. Fabienne Uehlinger from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine will lead the research project on parasite resistance to dewormers.

There is a new way to connect meat producers to consumers.

Regina-based Meatocracy has created an app for livestock producers to sell larger quantities of product direct to consumers.

Chief executive officer Lyndon Lisitza said they began working on the app before the pandemic, but they have been working hard to get it launched.

Beef, pork, chicken, lamb, bison and goat are expected to be available.

The app is available in Canada and the United States through Apple and Android.

Farmers and agronomists can now access in-person support at Ministry of Agriculture regional offices and the Agriculture Knowledge Centre (AKC).

Public health recommendations will remain in place for visiting those offices.

This includes appropriate physical distancing and sanitization, new signage, handwashing and sanitizing requirements, limits on the number of people in the lobby, additional cleaning of high-touch surfaces and having all interactions take place at the front counter.

It is still recommended clients use non-contact options by calling the offices.
