Agriculture Roundup for Friday March 6, 2020
Starting on Monday, spring weight restrictions take effect on all secondary highways.
The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure announced winter weight allowances were lifted in southwestern Saskatchewan on Mar. 1. Spring road restrictions typically come into effect in early March in the province.
Minister responsible Greg Ottenbreit said during this time of year, secondary highways revert back to regulation weights to save wear and tear on these roads.
“Weight restrictions are put in place at various times of the year on provincial highways as a measure to prevent damage to the surface or road bed,” Ottenbreit said. “As the weather warms up, some roads in the province can become vulnerable to soft spots and surface cracks as the frost comes out of the roadbed.”
