Farm leaders are hoping the federal government will give speedy approval to the new Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade deal.

The Trudeau government has introduced legislation for the new North American free trade pact while the opposition is making no guarantees of passing the trade legislation quickly.

Saskatchewan agriculture minister David Marit said he wants to see quick approval of the trade agreement.

Agriculture Producers Association of Saskatchewan President Todd Lewis said he hopes the opposition in Ottawa doesn’t needlessly delay passage.

The new agreement has already been approved in the U.S. and Mexico.

4-H Canada and Syngenta Canada will continue their partnership on an important program.

The Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security pillar empowers 4-H members to learn about sustainable farming practices and their impact, understand issues of food security at home and around the world, explore education and career choices in the agriculture sector.

Syngenta Canada President Trevor Heck said they are always looking for new ways of thinking and fresh approaches.

Farm Credit Canada (FCC) will ring the opening bell at the Toronto Stock Exchange on Feb. 11.

The ceremonial ringing of the opening bell is in recognition of kick-off the fourth anniversary of Canada’s Agriculture Day.

FCC President and CEO Michael Hoffort said the agriculture and food industry is made up of people who put their hearts and souls into producing and processing the safe and nutritious food every day.

The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t the only winners in Sunday’s Super Bowl.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said in a tweet the footballs were made in Ada, Ohio, from leather tanned in Chicago from steer hides processed in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.

Approximately 216 footballs are made for the Super Bowl from 22 hides.

He also tweeted that according to the country’s National Chicken Council, Americans were expected to eat a record 1.4 billion chicken wings for the Super Bowl.
