Fertilizer giant Nutrien has signed a deal to buy Brazilian company Agrosema Comercial Agricola.

Nutrien said Agrosema had annual sales of roughly $60 million U.S. across 12 farm centres with approximately 200 employees.

The company said the acquisition complements its current retail operations in Brazil.

Nutrien also owns Agrichem, which produces specialty liquid fertilizers in Brazil.

Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Dairy Farmers of Ontario said the new Canada, U.S., Mexico trade deal is not good for producers.

Board member Mark Hamel said the organization doesn’t like provisions allowing an increase in U.S. imports to Canada and the U.S. ability to cap Canadian exports.

Hamel said Canadian producers will look at ways to expand the market for dairy products in Canada.

A Manitoba snowmobile group has a message for anyone planning to hit the province’s groomed snowmobile trails this winter: stay off farmers’ fields.

More than 550 signs urging snowmobilers not to trespass on farmland are being distributed and put up by the non-profit group Snowmobilers of Manitoba through its 53 clubs in the province.

The signs have been provided free of charge by Manitoba Agricultural Services and Farm Credit Canada.

Manitoba Agricultural Services President and CEO Jared Munro said there’s roughly 400,000 acres or unharvested crops in the province.
