Canadian National Railways conductors, train persons and yard persons have threatened to launch a strike in three weeks.

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference disclosed Monday that its 3,000 members voted 99.2 per cent last month in favour of a strike.

The workers, who are mostly located in major urban centres across Canada, have been without a contract since July 23.

The union is trying to put pressure on the Montreal-based railway ahead of a resumption of negotiations with the help of federal mediators on Nov. 12.

Dot Technology has established an Alberta subsidiary with the goal to develop leading-edge technologies and enhance adoption of the Dot robotic system for use in autonomous farming.

Dot Intelligence will be based out of the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute in Edmonton.

The Alberta based team will focus on computer vision, machine learning optimization and intelligent navigation.

The goal is to eventually allow farmers to achieve 100 per cent ‘set it and forget it’ autonomous operation in the field.

It will enable a variety of transport options between fields such as the Follow-Me feature or platooning movement.

By the end of 2021, Dot Intelligence plans to add 20 new staff to the team members that have already moved from Regina to Edmonton.

Beyond Meat is raising its sales forecast for the year even as it faces more competitors making vegetarian meat alternatives.

The California company updated its outlook yesterday after seeing its sales more than triple in the latest quarter and logging its first quarterly profit.

The results come as plant-based options keep popping up on more menus, including at fast-food chains like White Castle and Burger King.

Last month, McDonald’s said it would run a limited test of Beyond Meat burgers in Canada.

Beyond Meat and rival Impossible Foods said they are also facing more competition.
