If you think it felt cooler this summer you would be correct.

Environment Canada says the province was one degree colder than normal from June through August.

The northern part of the province was two degrees lower.

The federal agency also found the summer fell further below average as it went along with August falling short of normal by two degrees.

Unresolved trade tensions with China and a large world supply of canola have pushed prices down as producers head into their fields for the fall harvest.

Through the first half of 2019, exports to that country fell 41 per cent.

In March, China banned canola seed exports from Canadian firms Richardson and Viterra after the arrest of Huawei Technologies executive Meng Wanzhou in December.

The country is a huge market for Canadian canola accounting for $2.7 billion in sales in 2018.

The Canadian Canola Council (CCC) said Europe’s biodiesel industry is a big export opportunity for Canada’s canola industry.

CCC said prospective exporters must first meet the EU’s market access requirements.

The trade group’s criteria must be met by the entire value chain from growers to the biofuel processors and a sustainability certificate must be attached to all canola exported for that market.

At least three Canadian grain handlers are signing up certified growers for the European market.
