Agriculture Program Funding

Money for variable rate mapping

Mar 7, 2019 | 3:01 PM

The Carrot River Valley Watershed Association (CRVWA) is hosting an information session in Melfort for farmers to learn more about funding available for variable rate mapping and converting cultivated land to forage.

Lynette Manuel is a CRVWA watershed technician.

“The Canadian Agricultural Partnership replaced Growing Forward 2 which was the old program that ended last year. It rolled out in April 2018 so it’s been around for almost a year and it’s a joint partnership between the federal and provincial governments. It’s done primarily through the ministry of agriculture,” Manuel said. “I help within the Carrot River Valley watershed helping producers access the funding opportunities which are the farm and ranch water infrastructure program and farm stewardship program.”

Manuel said producers who aren’t able to attend the information night can still get connected to programs that apply to their needs.

“We host these information nights to let people know what programs are out there,” Manuel said. “I actually come out to the farm. I do a visit, I help fill out the application, submit the application on behalf of the producer and follow it all the way through until they get their claim and their cheque in the mail.”

Manuel said there will be presentations from seed sellers and people who can help with mapping.

“As farmers think about when and what they might seed it’s a good time to think about the variable rate mapping and forage seeding.”

Manuel says the information night is Tuesday March 5 from 7:00 p.m.to 9:00 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre in Melfort. The event is free and you don’t have to register.

If you can’t be at the meeting and want to find out more you can contact Lynette Manuel at the watershed office in Melfort at 306 752-1270.
