A new conference happening this week in Prince Albert is looking to bring cattle producers together to talk about issues facing the industry.

The first-ever Saskatchewan Northern Beef Conference is set to take place this Friday at the Northern Livestock Sales location in Prince Albert. Organizers hope to make the event an annual one, to keep producers in touch with changes and trends in the cattle industry.

Kim Jungman with AJ Angus out of Duck Lake is organizing the conference, which is free to attend. Jungman said the aim of the conference to give producers a chance to network while getting up-to-date information about issues facing the cattle industry.

Topics on the agenda for Friday’s conference include sessions on marketing, animal genetics, nutrition, and new drug regulations in Canada. The new regulations mean some antibiotics will no longer be available at farm supply stores, and producers will have need a prescription from a veterinarian to use them.

“Our goal is to create a regular opportunity for beef producers, both purebred and commercial to come together,” Jungman told farmnewsNOW. “Just bringing everybody together so that we are focusing on making sure that everybody has the opportunity to stay up to date with the newest science and the newest advances within the industry so that we are working efficiently and we are doing to the best we can to produce the best beef we can.”

The conference will also feature a demonstration cattle display, including a variety of cattle breeds across the province.

The event includes lunch. Pre-registration is preferred.
