The Western Grain Elevator Association said the movement of grain has been smooth this winter.

Executive Director Wade Sobkowich said some mild winter weather is partly responsible for near-record grain shipments to the west coast.

He said grain elevators are busy because of a large crop this year, but rail companies have been providing good service.

He said Canadian Pacific and Canadian National have been providing between 80 to 90 per cent of the rail cars needed.

Two groups are joining forces to find the people responsible for shooting animals.

Several cattle and one horse were wounded and illegally shot in the southeast part of the province.

Saskatchewan Stock Growers General Manager Chad MacPherson said one producer near Lampman lost two animals and another producer in the Wawota area had several animals that were non fatally injured when they were shot with a small-calibre gun.

Saskatchewan Stock Growers have partnered with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and SaskTips to provide a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to a conviction.

Anyone with information is asked to call their local RCMP or SaskTips.

Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau announced two appointments to the Canadian Dairy Commission.

Jennifer Hayes has been re-appointed as commissioner and Robert Ingratta has been appointed as a chairperson.

Hayes has held the position of commissioner since 2017.

Ingratta’s professional experience includes being the chief executive officer of the British Columbia Milk Marketing Board for six years.
