Saskatchewan’s NDP leader called on Ottawa to give farmers a carbon tax break on the natural gas they buy to dry grain.

Ryan Meili said producers are facing steep grain drying bills because of a wet harvest.

Meili said he is speaking out because the provincial government has not.

He said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should introduce a rebate on grain drying costs related to the carbon tax.

Premier Scott Moe said the carbon tax should be scrapped.

There is important news out of Beijing this morning.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry confirmed China and the U.S. agreed in principle to remove some tariffs imposed in the trade dispute between the two countries.

Negotiators from both sides agreed the action will happen in phases.

Pork producers and industry will be in Saskatoon next week at their annual conference.

Saskatchewan Pork Symposium attracts more than 250 producers, industry stakeholders and government representatives.

Local, national and international speakers will share the latest information on hog production, animal health and welfare, new technology and the global outlook for the North American hog industry. There is also a trade show.

The symposium is Nov. 12 and 13.

Experts discuss the grassland ecosystem during a short film just released to the public.

Guardians of the Grasslands is a 12 minute film that takes a close look at the grasslands and its value in terms of wildlife habitat and carbon sequestration.

Screenings are being held at the Rex Schneider Auditorium on the University of Regina campus on Nov. 14 and on Nov.19 at the Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon. Both viewings will be followed by a panel discussion.

These events are free to the public.
