A new member-based co-operative owned by Saskatchewan livestock producers has been launched.

SK Livestock Finance Co-operative Ltd. (SKLF) provides financing for cattle and bison producers across the province.

SKLF board chair Sandra Moen said the program was established to replace the Livestock Loan Guarantee Program that was previously operated by the Ministry of Agriculture. SKLF will provide loans under similar terms with oversight and direction being driven from membership.

SKLF is currently focused on transferring producers from the government program to the new co-operative.

More information about the co-operative and how to apply can be found on SKLF’s website.

Farmers are encouraged to send in samples from newly harvested crops to the Canadian Grain Commission’s (CGC) Harvest Sample Survey.

CGC uses the information gathered to create marketing information for domestic and international customers to determine the quality and quantity of this year’s crop.

Producers who didn’t receive a Harvest Sample Kit can pick up the envelopes from their primary elevator.

The deadline to submit samples is Nov. 1.

Paterson GlobalFoods announced the construction of an oat processing facility in Winnipeg.

It will be located next to the company’s existing inland grain terminal on Manitoba’s largest private rail siding.

O Foods Ltd. will process up to 250,000 metric tonnes of raw oats each year from western Canadian farmers.

The facility will produce a full range of high health oat products for the world market.

Construction is starting immediately.
