Saskatchewan Pasture tour to visit Hanley area

Aug 7, 2019 | 3:00 PM

A number of farm-related groups will take part in the Saskatchewan Pasture tour on Thursday in the Hanley area.

The 50 producers registered will visit different ranch operations in the area where pasture management will be a key focus.

Agrologist Jeremy Brown said Ducks Unlimited will be on hand and for good reason.

“Ducks Unlimited’s interest in grassland is promoting healthy grassland and profitable ranches because they are providing [a] nesting habitat for waterfowl,” Brown said.

According to Brown, there is a lot of opportunity for improvement with pasture management.

“We can be managing the pasture more actively and the results can be more forage available for the livestock industry,” Brown said.

The farmers in attendance will be able to look at plants, technologies and fundamentals of pasture management.

Brown said the tour is also an opportunity to network with other producers and pick up new tools to help with their operations.

The tour begins at 7:15 a.m. and will wrap up with a supper and program at the Hanley Community Centre.
