The Northeast Agriculture Research Foundation (NARF) will be putting a recent donation from SaskCanola to good use.

The money comes from the Morris Sebulsky Endowment Fund after the Sheho area farmer and U of S lecturer left money to several organizations.

SaskCanola Chair Lane Stockbrugger says the $14,000 donation to NARF will be used to purchase a plot combine.

The Sebulsky estate left $2.8 million to four commodity groups, the U of S, 4-H and community organizations.

Timely rains since mid-June have boosted crops across the province.

It was also a big help to a Canadian Food Grains Bank grow project sponsored by the Foam Lake Marketing Club. Spokesperson Victor Loeppky said the 20 acre canola crop was direct seeded May 13.

Once the canola is sold the funds will be turned over to the food grains bank and will be topped up four to one by the federal government.

Roughly 150 people supported the Foam Lake Marketing Club’s annual crop tour. Proceeds from the burger and hot dog sale will also go to the Food Grains Bank.

The Foam Lake canola crop is one of 31 grow projects in Saskatchewan.

The pork industry will use new funds from the federal government to diversify export markets.

Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau says the $6 million going to Canada Pork International will be used to strengthen and grow Canada’s pork exports in priority markets around the world.

The funding will help the sector to strengthen its knowledge of market opportunities, enhance promotional efforts, increase contact with potential buyers and grow market opportunities for chilled pork exports.
