Some Saskatchewan crops suffer due to stormy weather

Some crops in Saskatchewan have been hit hard by the recent wet and stormy weather.

In Thursday’s crop report, Saskatchewan Agriculture says the majority of crops in the province are in poor-to-good condition.

Some crops suffered hail and wind damage this past week, as well as localized flooding.

Heavy rain has also affected some areas with 90 milimetres falling in the Frobisher region, and Kyle reporting 60 milimetres.

Some crops are reporting normal development. Those include fall and spring cereals, oilseeds and pulse crops.

Livestock producers who are currently haying are seeing hay quality of three per cent excellent, 42 per cent good, 42 per cent fair and 13 per cent poor.

Producers are also dealing with damage from insects, like grasshoppers and aphids, as well as reports of some pulse crops diseased by root rot.
