Melfort Regional 4-H Show and Sale Results

A successful 4-H event wrapped up in Melfort with over 200 head of cattle featured at the Regional 4-H Beef Show and Sale on Sunday and Monday at the exhibition grounds.

Justin Harcourt took home two major prizes showing the grand champion steer and reserve champion female.

Jayme Berting of the Bar West 4-H Beef Club had the reserve grand champion steer while the grand champion female was shown by Dallas Grona of the Tisdale 4-H Beef Club.

At the sale on Monday evening the grand champion steer sold for $4.50 per pound and was purchased by Quill Creek Farms.

Colony Chev GM bought the reserve grand champion steer for $4 per pound.

The 2019 charity steer, weighing in at 1,382 pounds, raised almost $25,000 with all proceeds going to STARS Air Ambulance Service of Saskatchewan.

The winner of the charity steer was Dr. Eben Strydom of Melfort. The steer was donated back and purchased by Townside Enterprises and First Pass Floaters for $4.25 per pound.

A total of 85 steers sold for an average of $3.25 per pound including the champions and $3.22 per pound without the champions.

The Beatty, Meskanaw-Ethelton, Three Lakes, Bar West, Moose Range, Tisdale, and Kelvington 4-H Beef Clubs participated in the event this year.
