Northeast Saskatchewan farmers are doing well when it comes to rainfall.

According to this week’s crop report, the Melfort and Tisdale area is in good shape for moisture after recent rainfall in the region.

Cory Jacob, crops extension specialist, said the area is good for a couple of weeks for sure.

“But just an inch or two at once, not these three or four inch rains because that can cause some issues,” Jacob said.

Further south is short on moisture according to Jacob.

Provincially crops are behind to normal in the development stage.

Canadian National Railway said it is on track to move record quantities of western Canadian grain after a strong June.

And Canadian Pacific Railway said its moved more grain this year as well.

CN Rail says it transported more than 2.3 million tonnes of grain last month.

That’s up nearly 16 per cent from the same period last year and above the three-year average.

Calgary-based Canadian Pacific says it shipped more than 24.8 million tonnes of grain products since the start of the crop year, 3.3 per cent ahead of last year.

That includes 2.2 million tonnes moved in June.
