Saskatchewan farmers look for sunshine to dry up fields
The latest Saskatchewan crop report shows the fall harvest in the province is now 27 per cent complete.
Breaking the harvest down region by region, the southwest is at 55 per cent complete, followed by the southeast at 26 per cent, the west-central at 25 per cent, the east-central at 14 per cent, the northeast at seven per cent, and the northwest at six percent.
Samantha Marcino, Crops Extension Specialist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, said in many areas of the province received large amounts of rain over the Labour Day long weekend
“I think almost every region had rain and some areas had quite a lot of rain,” she said. “There’s eight RMs that reported had over 100 millimetres of rain, which is pretty significant. The RM of Long Lake recorded the most at 138 mm, RM of Eyebrow recorded 132 mm, and the RM of Sarnia recorded 127 mm. So, some areas received some significant rainfall.”
