2026 Manitoba Crop report

Severe weather highlights Manitoba crop update

Jun 18, 2026 | 2:26 PM

Despite unprecedented weather across several regions, spring planting is 96 per cent complete in Manitoba.

Pulse and soybean specialist Dennis Lange said unusual weather stood out this past week.

“Everybody’s talking about the weather. Record-setting precipitation fell in areas of the south Interlake and eastern regions,” Lange said. “There was some infrastructure and road damage, some rivers swelled and some basins flooded. There have definitely been some issues with excess moisture in some regions.”

Lange said most unseeded acres are in the northwest region, where wet conditions and major rain events have delayed planting.

“That’s the area that’s probably the furthest behind. It’s been a very interesting year so far,” he said. “We’ve had some very unusual weather patterns. We’ve gone from cooler conditions to hot conditions, back to cool and windy conditions and heavy rain.”

Lange said areas hit by heavy rainfall are still evaluating the situation, but higher crop losses are expected there.

There have been reports of minor cutworm infestations and some flea beetle activity, but nothing significant. Lange said producers and agronomists are monitoring fields because weather, disease and insect patterns can change quickly.
