Lethbridge Polytechnic to offer new Pre-Veterinary Medicine diploma

Mar 24, 2026 | 10:17 AM

Applications are now open for Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Pre-Veterinary Medicine diploma, launching in the fall 2026.

The foundational sciences program prepares students for advanced professional studies in veterinary medicine while also offering career pathways in the animal sciences field. Over the two-year program, students will cover specialized courses in animal genetics, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and   nutrition.

Centre for Business, Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Kevin Smith said the new vet med program reflects Lethbridge Polytechnic’s commitment to building pathways for students.

“By combining foundational learning and clear transfer opportunities, we are preparing students who are passionate about science and animal health for success in professional programs and high-demand careers in the field,” Smith said.

The new program has a transfer agreement with the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, where students meet the 10-course requirement for application to its Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Students can also continue directly with the polytechnic’s Bachelor of Agriculture Sciences post-diploma degree, pursue the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), or enter the workforce as laboratory assistants, animal research, livestock technicians, and animal nutrition consulting.

More information on the program is available here.
