Sask RMs gather to address come concerns

Rural municipalities from across Saskatchewan meet next week for their annual conference – an opportunity to discuss issues of concern. 

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) will welcome roughly 2,000 delegates, exhibitors, and guests from across the province for the event March 10 – 12.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network, interact with the provincial and federal government, vote on and debate resolutions, and discuss current issues affecting rural Saskatchewan. 

Delegates will hear from Minister of Government Relations Eric Schmalz and SARM President Bill Huber. There will be a fireside chat with the SARM Board of Directors.  

Premier Scott Moe will address the delegates, followed by the bear pit session, and provincial Opposition leader Carla Beck will also speak.

Road, bridge and culvert repair and replacement are a concern for RMs. The provincial government announced more than $46 million for these projects this week. President Bill Huber said SARM is pleased to see funding support.  

“Rural Saskatchewan faces substantial transportation infrastructure needs, as many of the goods and resources driving our provincial economy originate in rural municipalities,” Huber said. “Investing in RM roads, bridges, and culverts delivers strong economic benefits across Saskatchewan, and SARM looks forward to continuing our partnership with the Ministry of Highways to deliver the Rural Integrated Roads for Growth Program in the years ahead.” 

The RIRG program is funded by the provincial government and is administered by SARM. 

Along with several other presentations, roughly 25 resolutions will be brought forward.
