Canada’s agriculture minister re-elected

Apr 29, 2025 | 10:46 AM

A Nova Scotia MP, who was named the country’s agriculture minister in March, has be re-elected.

Kody Blois won his Kings-Hants riding in yesterday’s election by a decisive margin and is one of roughly 165 Liberal MPS projected to win their seat.

Blois inherited the role from veteran minister Lawrence MacAulay, who announced his retirement in early March.

Blois has some experience with the office, having previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the agriculture minister and served on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture.

He was one of the few Liberal MPs who supported Bill C-234, a private members bill that proposed to exempt from the price on carbon propane and natural gas for farm uses like grain drying and barn heating.

Blois will be a frontrunner for the agriculture role in Carney’s post-election cabinet.
