Prime Minister Carney appoints Kody Blois as new Federal Ag Minister

Mar 14, 2025 | 11:07 AM

There is a new Prime Minister in Canada, and along with that comes a new cabinet, including a new Agriculture Minister.

Mark Carney was sworn in as Prime Minister today (FRIDAY), and with that he introduced a pared-down cabinet from his predecessor, Justin Trudeau.

Carney’s cabinet features 23 cabinet ministers, significantly fewer than the 36 in the Trudeau administration.

Of note for producers in Saskatchewan is a new Agriculture Minister.

Lawrence MacAulay had earlier announced he was not running again in the next election, and he has been replaced as Agriculture Minister by Kody Blois (bloi-ss).

The Nova Scotia MP was the only Liberal MP to support the 2022 motion by the opposition Conservatives that sought to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act.

The motion looked to exempt natural gas and propane used by farmers to dry grain and heat barns from the federal carbon tax.
