VANDERHOOF, B.C. — Rancher and farmers displaced by the wildfires are getting some much needed help. The BC Cattleman’s Association is bringing their cattle up here to the north.

Alex Kulchar, director with the association said that after speaking with various ranchers and farmers here in the north, there are plans to send more than 500 cattle from the stockyards they’re currently housed in.

One ranch in Vanderhoof is going to house at least 400 cattle. At least 80 are already there and another delivery of cattle is expected next week.

It’s unclear how long the cattle will be here for, but the BC Cattleman’s Association said it will do everything they can to help.

“The wildfires are terrible. There are cattle that have been gathered off the range and they’re storing them in stockyards and feedlots, which isn’t the best situation. We’re able to take some cattle this week into this area to be grazed that are displaced by the fires,” said Kulchar
