Aug 20, 2024 | 12:45 PM

Farmers in B.C. can get some financial aid to help adopt labour-saving technologies to support their growing operations.

The provincial and federal governments are accepting applications for the B.C. On-Farm Technology Adoption Program.

The program has $2 million available to support farmers purchasing and using new tech to enhance their profitability, productivity and efficiency with the aim of improving food security in the province.

The is the second intake of the joint provincial-federal program, and this year’s funding will be focused on commercially available technologies to help grow, raise, harvest, pack or store food more effectively, productively, or profitably.

The funding can be used to purchase equipment and robotics that operate independently such as automated weeding equipment and harvesters, or automated grading and sorting machines.

Applications for this round of funding can be submitted online until October 6.

The first round of the program provided $2 million to help 54 farms across B.C. buy new equipment.
