Protein Industries Canada (PIC) is looking for technology leadership projects.

PIC will accept new expressions of interest (EOI) for its second call for the program starting Monday.

PIC CEO Bill Greuel said this is part of the $150 million in funding provided through the Global Innovation Cluster program.

“We received an overwhelming response from our first call for projects,” Greuel said. “With 36 EOIs, it is evident that the sector is positive about the long-term growth opportunities for plant-based food, feed and ingredients, and that the cluster model has been embraced by the industry.”

EOIs under the second round will be accepted until Jun. 26. Consortiums are encouraged to make their submissions as soon as they are ready.

Projects must align with at least one area of focus in genetics, crops, ingredients, and products that include the use of high-protein dryland crop such as lentils, peas, chickpeas, canola, fava, oat, flax, lupin, or soy.

Registration has now opened for this summer’s Canadian Beef Industry Conference (CBIC) in Calgary.

CBIC is a collaboration of the Beef Cattle Research Council, Canada Beef, Canadian Beef Breeds Council, Canadian Cattle Association and National Cattle Feeders Association.

The four-day event brings together over 700 attendees that include producers, government agencies and industry leaders to network, share ideas and grow their operations.

Keynote speakers include NHL Leader, Community Activist and Philanthropist Brian Burke and Diana Rodgers of Global Food Justice Alliance.

Breakout sessions will focus on sustainability, marketing, and biosecurity.

CBIC is Aug. 14 to 17.

New Holland Agriculture has been awarded a 2023 Green Good Design Award for its T7 Methane Power LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) prototype tractor.

The new T7 prototype provides four times the fuel storage of the T6 model, the world’s first commercialized compressed natural gas tractor.

New Holland partnered with UK-based Bennamann whose multi-patented approach converts fugitive methane to clean biofuel which helps support an energy independent farm system.

The awards are organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
