An agriculture equipment dealer is expanding in the northeast.

Cervus Equipment will be opening a parts and service centre south of Nipawin on Highway 35.

Cervus Equipment Director of Product Support Kyle Henderson said a move into the Nipawin area made sense.

“We see a significant amount of opportunity in the Nipawin area. In the Northeast, in Saskatchewan, we have some great land and some great producers that we’re dealing with in the Melfort area right now as well. This will give us the opportunity to get closer to them and hopefully deliver a better level of service by having a better proximity,” Henderson told farmnewsNOW.

The expansion is good news for the community with five new jobs being created starting with two parts technicians and three service technicians.

“The location in Nipawin is going to be a parts and service center for John Deere equipment. We’ll be offering a full inventory of John Deere parts for the equipment that’s in the area, as well as in shop and field service technicians at the location to start with,” he said. “As we go forward, we’ll look for opportunity for expansion at the location as well.”

“John Deere is our primary brand. We have access to parts for a number of other brands like Brandt, MacDon, some trucking brands as well as other farm shop supplies. We’ve got a broad selection of products that we offer from our parts departments,” he said.

Even with trade issues and lower commodity prices creating uncertainty in the agriculture sector, Henderson said he believes the agriculture community is resilient and there will always be opportunities in food production.

“The world needs protein. We need grain, we need cattle. Saskatchewan and Western Canada produce some of the highest quality proteins in the world. The ag industry has weathered many storms before. There’s been uncertainty in the business for years,” he said. “We see this as a huge opportunity for our business to be able to better partner with people in the day to day operation of their farms. The Northeast has great land and a sustainable history of producing great quality protein, great quality grain and this is an opportunity for us to be part of helping to support that.”

Henderson said they are setting a target opening date of April 15.

“We’ve got a lot of logistics to work through. We’re really pushing hard to make sure that we’re open for the spring seeding season and to be there to support our customers in the area,” he said.

Cervus Equipment has 63 dealerships across Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Nine are in Saskatchewan
