Agriculture Roundup for Tuesday March 10, 2020

Mar 10, 2020 | 10:08 AM

Grain movement backlog and the carbon tax will be among the issues raised at the annual meeting of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) this week in Regina.

SARM president Ray Orb said he hoped the federal government will provide some support for farmers who faced a tough harvest and a costly carbon tax on fuel used for drying grain.

He said there are still a lot of crops that are still out.

Roughly 2,000 rural municipal delegates are attending the convention.

The Ministry of Agriculture office in Humboldt has opened.

Agriculture Minister David Marit announced the move in December when it was decided to close the Watrous office which was underutilized. The Watrous office averaged only 70 walk-ins a year.

The new Humboldt Regional Services office will include two administrative staff, along with crop extension, range management and agri-enviromental specialists.

It’s located in the same office as Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation.
