Two members of the Bourgault family will be inducted into the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame (SAHOF).

The late Frank Bourgault founded Bourgault Industries in 1973, and his son Gerry grew the St. Brieux, Sask. farm equipment manufacturer to a name known by farmers around the world.

At the official announcement at Western Canadian Crop Production Show in Saskatoon, Frank’s son Claude spoke on behalf of his father and brother.

“It was the foundation for the company for many years, and that’s why they’re being inducted together,” Bourgault said. “Dad took the risk, brought it to a certain point, and Gerry took the ball and ran with it. He created opportunity for so many people.”

The other inductees include the late Harold Martens, an MLA and a rancher from the Swift Current area. He was president of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association from 2011-2014 and before as an MLA, Martens was influential in developing agricultural policy.

Dr. Bob Bors was the head of the fruit program at the University of Saskatchewan for many years. He is best known for his breeding work on the haskap berry.

Bill Wilson was the producer of the Prairie Farm Report which aired on Saskatchewan television for many years. Many of those episodes eventually became DVD’s.

Dr. Grant Royan from Regina operated the Sherwood Animal Clinic for more than 20 years. He was also a board member with Canadian Western Canadian Agribition as well as the show’s official veterinarian.

The SAHOF induction ceremony will be held Apr. 26 in Saskatoon.
