Agronomy specialist downplays hard frost effects on canola
The cold weather has held off for the most part in the province, but a hard frost is forecast overnight Thursday.
Ian Epp is an Agronomy Specialist with the Canola Council of Canada and said the remaining canola crop should fare O.K. if it’s close to harvestable.
“The frost shouldn’t have any effect on the canola,” said Epp. “In some cases with the standing canola, it might be beneficial to have a frost.”
Epp said a hard frost could eliminate some weeds or green materials underneath the canola.
