SaskOilseeds searchs for directors

Open positions on new SaskOilseeds board

Sep 27, 2024 | 10:13 AM

The amalgamation of the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission (Sask Canola) and Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission (Sask Flax) has one more crucial step.

The official merger into a single organization, SaskOilseeds, now has the task of filling four positions on its Board of Directors.

The single organization took effect on Aug. 1, the search begins for individuals with leadership experience to join the board during the transition.

The SaskOilseeds Board will be comprised of eight farmer-elected directors. A board nominee must be a registered producer – defined as a producer who has sold canola and/or flax in either of the previous two crop years from Aug. 1, 2022 to July 31, 2024 and who has not requested a levy refund in the past year.

Outgoing SaskCanola Board Chair Keith Fournier said eight years tenure adds up to countless conversations that were both challenging and inspiring.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to help guide investments in canola research, influence government policy, inform consumers and expand our markets. Time well spent, memories and an enhanced network to last a lifetime,” he said. “I urge my fellow farmers to consider putting their names forward for election.”

Nominations close on Sept. 30. The four-year director terms start January.

Director responsibilities include five board meetings per year, plus participation on committees and appointments to external industry-related boards. This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative, professional team to represent and advance the interests of Saskatchewan farmers.

SaskOilseeds is supported by 17,000 levy-paying Saskatchewan canola growers and 3,000 levy-paying Saskatchewan flax growers.
