Free assessment of grain’s quality

Farmers can gain valuable insights into the product they’re putting in their bins.

The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is offering information on grain quality to farmers.

Canadian farmers are eligible for a free grain sample assessment from the annual Harvest Sample Program.

Farmers who sign up for the program will receive a kit to mail in their grain samples at no extra cost.

For each sample, they’re provided with an unofficial grade and quality results including falling number for wheat and rye, vomitoxin levels for wheat, corn, barley and oats, dockage assessment on canola and mustard seed and protein content on barley, beans, chickpeas, lentils, oats, peas and wheat.

For oilseed crops there will be an assessment of the oil, protein and chlorophyll content for canola, oil and protein content and iodine value for flaxseed, and oil and protein for mustard seed and soybeans

CGC will also use the information processed through the program to help market Canadian grain, inform CGC’s grain grading standards and contribute to research that benefits producers.
