Farmer pleads guilty in distressed cattle case

May 16, 2024 | 2:29 PM

The Whitkow farmer who had his cattle seized after being charged for “unnecessary pain, suffering or injury” two years ago has pled guilty.

In the spring of 2022, Animal Protection Services Saskatchewan (APSS) removed 308 cattle from Morris Tokaryk’s property after an investigation found the animals were in distress.

According to Don Ferguson, chief animal protection officer and executive director with APSS, Tokaryk pled on May. 3 and was sentenced to a 30-day conditional discharge and may not keep animals for five years.

The second charge was withdrawn by Jennifer Schmidt, senior crown prosecutor.
