Livestock Drought Assistance Program

Applications are open for Canada-Saskatchewan Feed Program

Oct 27, 2023 | 1:05 PM

Saskatchewan livestock producers can now apply for assistance through the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC).

The 2023 Canada-Saskatchewan Feed Program covers 70 per cent of additional costs associated with feed purchases, self-hauling or transportation costs for feed or breeding animals and land rented for additional grazing acres or additional feed production.

Producers will need to submit their receipts or appropriate documents for the extraordinary expenses incurred after May 1, 2023, to Mar. 1, 2024. Producers must have lost a minimum of 25 feed days.

A Saskatchewan Premises Identification (PID) is required to apply. The submitted application needs to indicate the number of breeding animals on hand, as of Aug. 21, 2023, intended to be kept until Jan. 31, 2024.

The program is designed to help retain breeding animals which include females and males of reproductive age of beef cattle and other grazing animals, including bison, elk, deer, sheep, goats, and horses.

Livestock producers outside of the designated drought area should apply as provincial-only funding will be available.
