Sask. delegation heading to UK & Poland to discuss agriculture and other sectors

Sep 22, 2023 | 5:26 PM

A delegation from Saskatchewan is heading to the United Kingdom and Poland.

Being led by Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan’s Minister of Immigration and Career Training and Trade and Export Development, the aim is to expand opportunities in agriculture, critical minerals, and innovative technology.

Part of the delegation includes representatives from Protein Industries Canada, Economic Development Regina, Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority, and Cultivator powered by Conexus.

“It’s really important that the province continues to share our story around the world and move into new markets, making connections for Saskatchewan exporters particularly those in the agri-food sector,” said Jay Teneycke, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications for the Ministry of Trade and Export Development.

The delegation will be in the two countries for a total of eight days, from Sept. 23 to Sept. 30.

Teneycke explained the Minister, in particular, is planning to meet with different businesses, stakeholders, and investors about several different topics.

“This includes everything from export opportunities to high-quality plant protein and other plant-based products, as well as innovative agricultural technologies and everything that Saskatchewan really shines at when it comes to agri-foods.”

Several Saskatchewan businesses will also be making the trip to London to take part in the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit, happening on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27, as well as Future Food Tech London, taking place on Sept. 28 and Sept. 29.

There are also plans for different Saskatchewan representatives to take part in a recruitment fair in Poland.

“With food security becoming increasingly important, we need to keep Saskatchewan farmers in the field,” said Brent Bazin, Corporate Service Manager for Young’s Equipment, in a release. We are proud to say that we have several long-term employees who are now Canadian citizens, permanently settled and raising families in Saskatchewan. Our hope is to find others in Poland that will yield the same results.”
