Canada Beef names new leader ahead of current president’s retirement

Sep 21, 2023 | 1:00 PM

Canada Beef has found its new president.

Eric Bienvenue will start with the organization on Oct. 3, 2023, but he won’t officially take on the role until March when current president Michael Young retires.

Over the next few months, Young will mentor his successor to ensure he’s fully prepared for the job when he leaves.

“He brings a solid business acumen, collaborative leadership skills, and the drive needed to support the continued success and prosperity of the Canadian cattle and beef sector,” Young said.

Bienvenue has nearly 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles in the Canadian pork and poultry industries. This includes over 20 at Olymel and several at Boire et Frères Inc.

“We are pleased to welcome Eric to the sector,” said Russ Mallard, chair of the Market Development and Promotion Committee which provides operational oversight to Canada Beef. “The search committee oversaw a rigorous four-month review process that considered several highly qualified candidates.”

Bienvenue will be based in Calgary, Alberta.
