‘Are you kidding me?’ Shellbrook area goat delivers sextuplets

A small petting zoo west of Shellbrook is celebrating a little miracle; in fact there were six little miracles.

A five-year-old Nigerian dwarf cross goat named Party successfully delivered a litter of six kids. The world record is seven, and most does give birth to two or three kids at a time. Candace Wolfe, owner and operator of Lovestruck Miniatures, bought the doe back in 2018

“$90 bucks at an auction. She has definitely made her worth,” Wolfe joked.

A social media video of the pregnant super doe has been viewed over 100,000 times. In past years, Party has delivered sets of twins and triplets.

“We were surprised when she had five one year … that was interesting,” Wolfe commented.

An animal lover her whole life, Wolfe’s farm includes horse, donkeys, chickens and guinea fowl. She initially started with horses but then made a decision in 2013, to buy goats.

“We were kind of doing a Shellbrook petting zoo and we didn’t have a goat, and I was like we need a goat for a petting zoo,” she explained.

The unusual delivery happened on March 30, and both Party and her little ones are thriving. And to one’s surprise the kids are getting a lot of attention.

“I’ve had lots of friends over and definitely like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok famous,” Wolfe said, adding it comes at a time when she’s also busy with lambing season.

Wolfe explained when the kids arrived at 6.am., there was a brief scare as they all started coming out backwards. This can be fatal if they ingest the fluids. Katheryn Kennedy helped with the delivery and marvelled at how well they are all doing now.

“She’s got them on full feed alfalfa pellets,” she said, before pointing to one little goat that was literally bouncing off the walls. “This little guy was upside down and backwards.”

Noting the high cost of feed, Wolfe joked she could probably go on a nice vacation but added she enjoys the birthing process for all her animals, and so loves being at home with them.
