Nov 25, 2022 | 4:33 PM

MELFORT, Sask. – Canadian Western Agribition returns for its 51st edition starting on Monday.

Known primarily as a livestock event, Agribition also boasts rodeo performances, cabarets, agri-education, and a trade show.

This will be the first Agribition for the new CEO Shaun Kindopp. He was appointed to the position last August. He was busy walking through the facilities on Friday.

“As of 3:00 p.m. today people will be getting ready to move in and have their stalls set up. So, it’s exciting as people start getting set up here,” Kindopp said. “Livestock entries this year are fantastic. We’re really comparable to the 2019 numbers, which is fantastic coming out of the pandemic that we can remain at those levels.”

Bison, cattle, sheep, and alpacas will be arriving in the Real District this weekend ahead of opening day.

Kindopp said the trade show will have roughly 400 booths.

“Even today, we’re still getting people calling wanting to try and get a booth, which is something definitely that we’re proud of as well,” he said.

Foreign visitors are also returning to the show. Kindopp said around 86 countries will be represented.

“We’ve got the best genetics going. It’s a place where agriculture is thriving, and people want to come and learn and they want to buy the best,” he said.

International guests are coming from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, France, Germany, Mexico, Mongolia, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

Monday’s official opening will include free admission, a free pancake breakfast, and the traditional ‘Burning of the Brand’ which serves as the kickoff for the show.

Agribition runs Nov. 28 to Dec. 3 at the REAL District in Regina, Sask.
